I hate to tell you Mike that I know a few righteous (and righteous looking) Midwestern born-agains likely to intuitively make the association that appears to be at the heart of your comment - only without the irony.

Hermeneutic overdrive is the potentially calamitous Protestant phenotype of the natural and vital human ability to interpret the world. Unassuming atheists don't live in fear of Obama.

For myself, I don't see anything in Obama's gaze that I wouldn't have hoped would be visible in my own at that age.

But I never looked that cool in a hat.
