Happy music

I don't think I've ever posted this track, which Deutschlandradio Kultur kindly played for me (and only me) this morning:

The Seekers, "Georgy Girl" (1968).

If I find the time this weekend I might watch the film. Might cheer me up.

You want cheering up Sybil? Try my recipe for Spezi - which I thought I'd posted below. (Chill a can of Fanta. Chill a can of Coke. Open them. Mix into a big glass. Drink).

Don't watch anything to do with Folk music. Ever. Really. Get onto Spotify and pig out on the Soul n Jazz n Good stuff they've got there. My playlist is growing daily. Just put on "The Horse" by Dexy's Midnight Runners. Give that a whirl. Not the Seekers.

This song, in ways both subtle and obvious, has a transgender reading.

Why do all the boys just pass you by?/Could it be you just don't try or is it the clothes you wear?

There's another Georgy deep inside/Bring out all the love you hide and, oh, what a change there'd be

Don't be so scared of changing and rearranging yourself

"Georgy Girl" - a folk song? Really?

By the way, your comments match - the gender-bending of the Seekers and the gender-bending of that all-time male favourite, Spezi (which I still insist is a peculiarly German drink. Show me an Englishman who has the guts, nay the spirit of innovation, to mix chilled Fanta and Coke!)

Folk? CF Wikipedia. I rest my case. More seriously, I know its not an old guy with a beard and a jersey, finger in a cupped ear singing about "A ship leaving Liverpool, never to return", but it is sort of neo-folk. It is weird to think that James Brown had already been funking for three years when this song was popular and that within 10 years or so the hiphop revolution would be kicking off in the South Bronx.

Spezi is just a stonkingly good drink on a hot day. And yes, it is Germany's main, if unrecognised, gift to modern civilsation. Its a drink of its times, its just that the times don't know it yet.

Fair Play to you both. This must be the only Blog in the world that doesn't have anything about Michael.... Oh, what is his name. Think he might have died recently. I think there was something on the news about it the other day.

Show me an Englishman who has the spirit of innovation to chill either of them, before drinking!

Oh come, come Headbang - no jokes about unchilled drinks in Britain here! Individual taps, yes (three cheers to the "Mischbatterie"), but lukewarm drinks?
