Take heed, Lena ...

... one's "English accent" can always be improved!

I was going to send you a link to that!

Certainly very useful: but I'm not sure whether our Lena would want to sound more consistently like this.

I'm sure glad that I don't anymore....

P.S.: I take offence at the captcha, which is: mombear! I am not!

We take no responsibility for the captchas, Mombear.

Blame Blogger... :-)

@JCW: so it's all big brother's fault, eh?

Frau M. - has the Lena virus hit the Austrians at all? If it has, I'm not entirely surprised: I do like the song per se. But the English, the English! It's almost too much to bear!

Ario - Did I tell you that Chomsky gave a lecture at our humble academic institution the other day? I didn't understand all of his paper - especially since he refrained from talking politics - but from his brief hints at "the mystery of language" and it being "a problem for evolutionary biology" I got the impression that deep in his heart he is an intelligent design kind of person.

As to the article: Does different language use suggest that we also have different mental concepts of the world? Evans and Levinson sound strikingly Sapir-Whorffian.

Well, the songs dudels in the radio all the time, but other than that I'm glad to report that the ORF did not even show the Schlummer Contest on TV nor did it show Lena's return to Hannover (wasn't that the silliest thing?).

So long,
Corinna

Being a singer myself, I always find it extremely disturbing when singers use a language they hardly know, especially in interviews.

Anyway, Björk made a world career despite a real weird accent, didn't she?!

@Mmlle C.: Actually, we were talking about the Björk-Lena continuum only yesterday. I guess it's unavoidable (and apparently there are no major global crises to talk about at the moment).

I don't know why I can live with Björk's outlandish pronunciation, but not with Lena's - maybe because Björk never really faked an English accent (let alone several)? Really, her English is never some kind of "Mockney" or "Icelenglish" - it's pure Troll.

Also, I'd say that Björk is quite fluent in English: she has a weird accent but doesn't lack the vocabulary.
