"Oh, yes, it's definitely been jumped on"

Via Boing Boing, a very interesting clip from mid-70s British television.

Extraordinary.

O gawd - I have seen this before; I might even have seen the original broadcast, since I used to watch the programme: Nationwide. That's a young Sue Lawley. Even then, she got to the heart of the matter: "That's it, is it? That's 'jumping on eggs'?".

Somehow, we were all more innocent back in those days. Or is that just old age speaking?

I'm always happy to bring back some happy memories, Geoff. A couple of people at Boing Boing had the same reaction. It would be hard, I suspect, to forget seeing such a thing....

Yes, Ms. Lawley is certainly, how shall we say, cutting? I sort of feel sorry for the guy. I mean, he seems dead proud of his little egg-jumping act (and perhaps we should be thankful that the 'human noses' part of it wasn't shown!) and she just mocks him.

But is it just me, or does it look vaguely like those eggs are embedded in something reminiscent of plastic explosive? I mean, there's a detonating wire and everything.

Maybe it is just me.

As to innocence: well, back then I _was_ more innocent, having been in Kindergarten. I can't speak for the rest of you; however, I somehow had the impression that you were all snorting coke in discos and engaging in rampant, Abba-soundtracked debauchery in the mid-70s.

Or was that just in New York?

Well, I personally wasn't snorting coke in discos - but the rest of it sounds like a fair summing up. I have mellowed somewhat since then, I hasten to add.
