Loving ze Germans

Quite a week. Not only is the BBC showing a documentary on the 'Real Germany' (in which the war is not mentioned, though, of course, only after the ritual show of pointing out that it's not being mentioned) and now someone at the Guardian goes and declares Germany the 'greatest European art nation of the 20th century'.

Gott im Himmel!, as they used to say in my old black and white comics....

Vaz it zomezing vee zaid?

It's compensation for having such a risk-averse and uncreative Bundeskanzlerin. You should be grateful.

Well, she is, probably, better dinner party conversation than Prince Andrew.

Though, I admit, that's not saying much.

Oh come on, you'd have much more of a laugh sat next to Prince Andrew at a party. Mind you it is rude to laugh at rather than with. But at least you'd get a laugh. Unless the rumours about Merkel's Berlusconi impersonation are true.......

Seriously, this German season has been excellent, especially The Art of Germany. Nice to see Germans who are not wearing swastikas for a change.

The Guardian is right, you know. German fine art and high art regularly reaches heights that other European cultures reach only when they're having a gilded age.

German high culture is one thing. German pop culture is another. Lou Bega. Kraftwerk. Nena and Lena. The Musical Genius of James Last. Sheesh.
