It is bizarre to think he was 17 when he recorded that. I'm slightly perturbed to note that I actually remember it first time round. One of the earliest things I do remember. That and Days of Pearly Spencer - don't know who did that - and Ain't nothin' but a Houseparty by the Showstoppers.
Oh man, Mike, why did you do that? Mention "The Days of Pearly Spencer", I mean. Now the bloody song and David McWilliam's grating voice are going to stick in my head all day long.
David McWilliam: The most annoying voice in pop history. Followed immediately by Al Stewart, who sounds exactly like McWilliam.
He, I didn't say listen to it or anything. I just remembered it from Radio Caroline. Or North Sea. The Show Stoppers - well that's a different question, and it still deserves a spin.....
David McWilliams (RIP btw) issued an album called "David McWillimas sing songs written by David McWillimas". Only in the 60s, eh? On the other hand, 2 of the Showstoppers were younger brothers of Solomon Burke. I rest my case. Whatever it is.
Why not put up "The Letter" by the Box Tops, too?

ReplyDeleteWell, I was trying to be selective, and my experience with the late Mr. Chilton was primarily via Big Star rather than the Box Tops.
Maybe a question of taste; maybe just a question of age.
